CELEBRATING CANADIAN EXCELLENCE AND ACHIEVEMENT IN HEALTH: THE CANADIAN MEDICAL HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES THE 2026 INDUCTEES

London, ON – Lehana Thabane, PhD, Chair of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF), announced today that after a thorough nomination and selection process, the remarkable contributions and achievements of six Canadians will be honoured with induction into the CMHF:

Pavel Hamet, CM OQ OM MD PhD FRCPC FRSM FCAHS FAHA | Montreal, QC A renowned researcher of hypertension, diabetes, and genetics

Robert Alexander Hegele, MD FRCPC Cert Endo FACP FCAHS FAHA FCCS FRSC | London, ON A forerunner in human lipid disorder research

Michael D. Hill, OC MD MSc FRCPC FRSC FCAHS FAHA FESO | Calgary, AB A pioneer in improved stroke outcomes

Mary R. L’Abbé, CM PhD | Toronto, ON A dedicated advocate for better nutrition

Morag Park, CQ PhD FRSC FCAHS | Montreal, QC A trailblazer in cancer research and precision therapies

Bernard Zinman, OC MDCM FRCPC | Toronto, ON A global leader in clinical research and treatment of diabetes

The CMHF Laureates are Canadian citizens whose outstanding leadership and contributions to medicine and the health sciences, in Canada or abroad, have led to extraordinary improvements in human health. Their work may be a single meritorious contribution or a lifetime of superior accomplishments. Pioneers in their field, they are role models who inspire young Canadians to pursue careers in the health sciences. “Celebrating excellence in Canadian health innovation, research, and care is at the heart of the CMHF’s mission. We are honoured to recognize these six exceptional individuals whose dedication and achievements continue to elevate Canada’s reputation in both national and global health,” said Dr. Thabane. “Their remarkable contributions have left a lasting legacy, and they join the ranks of our distinguished 167 Laureates in June 2026.”

These internationally renowned Canadian leaders will be celebrated at a ceremony held in association with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine on June 18, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta. “It’s an honour to be named the host city for the prestigious Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” says Dr. Todd Anderson, Dean of the Cumming School of Medicine. “Celebrating the innovators whose contributions have shaped Canadian health care reflects our mission to lead, as does welcoming visionaries who will inspire the generations to come.”
